Kumbhakarna’s Departure for Battle
तस्यनिष्पततस्तूर्णंकुम्भकर्णस्यधीमतः ।बभूवुर्घोररूपाणिनिमित्तानिसमन्ततः ।।।।
tasya niṣpatatas tūrṇaṃ kumbhakarṇasya dhīmataḥ |
babhūvur ghorarūpāṇi nimittāni samantataḥ ||6.65.47||
នៅពេលដែល កុម្ភកណ៌ ដ៏ឈ្លាសវៃស្ទុះចេញទៅយ៉ាងលឿន និមិត្តហេតុអាក្រក់ដ៏គួរឱ្យភ័យខ្លាចបានលេចឡើងនៅគ្រប់ទិសទី។
The clouds appeared in the colour of donkey and there was thunder and lightning. The oceans, forests and earth seemed as though shaken.
The appearance of ominous signs functions as a moral signal in epic narrative: nature reflects ethical disorder. The dharmic reading is that adharma-bound action invites cosmic resistance and inner ruin, even for the “wise.”
Kumbhakarṇa’s advance is accompanied by alarming portents in the environment.
Swiftness and resolve; the verse also highlights the limitation of mere intelligence (dhī) when it is not aligned with dharma.
