The Greatness of the Gaṅgā (Gaṅgā-māhātmya): Saudāsa/Kalmāṣapāda’s Curse and Release

Narada (in dialogue context with the Sanatkumara tradition)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It praises mahātmas whose very character becomes a source of joy and well-being for all—showing that true dharma is naturally beneficent, like the moon that cools and delights the world.
By implying that genuine devotion refines one’s character into compassionate, world-uplifting conduct; a bhakta’s life becomes “sarva-loka-sukhāvaha”—beneficial to all, not merely privately spiritual.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa) is taught directly; the verse instead gives a practical dharmic criterion—measure spiritual attainment by its visible fruit: steadiness of character and benefit to society.
