Sage Narada (enumerating contents to the Sanatkumara brothers, Anukramanika style)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It functions as an anukramaṇikā (table-of-contents) verse: by listing successive kathās, it signals that multiple illustrative narratives are used to teach dharma and karmic causality, including consequences connected with preta-states and moral conduct.
Indirectly: by announcing forthcoming caritas (exemplary stories), it points to the Purāṇic method where devotion and right conduct are taught through narrative models; the listed episodes are meant to culminate in dharma aligned with devotion to the divine.
The mention of Nakṣatra-Puruṣa indicates a Jyotiṣa (Vedic astronomy/astrology) framing—using nakṣatras (lunar mansions) as personified teaching devices—while the preta-upākhyāna hints at ritual-dharma implications for death rites and pacification.
