Adhyaya 84 — The Gods’ Hymn after the Slaying of Mahishasura and the Goddess’ Boon
yadi cāpi varo deyas tvayāsmākaṃ maheśvari | saṃsmṛtā saṃsmṛtā tvaṃ no hiṃsethāḥ paramāpadaḥ ||
The verse elevates devotion from mere praise to a practical dharmic refuge: remembrance (smaraṇa) becomes a means of protection and moral steadiness in crisis.
Falls under Manvantara-kathā and dharma-upadeśa by implication: it prescribes a devotional practice (remembering Devī) as a sustaining principle across ages.
Repeated remembrance suggests japa-like continuity: consciousness aligned with Śakti dispels ‘āpadaḥ’ (inner/outer afflictions), implying an apotropaic and transformative function.
