Sukta 1
अर्यमणं यजामहे सुबन्धुं पतिवेदनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनात् प्रेतो मुञ्चामि नामुतः
aryamáṇám yajāmáhe subándhuṃ pativé́danam | urvā́rukam iva bándhanāt préto muñcāmi nā́mútaḥ ||
We worship Aryaman, the kindly kinsman, the Finder of the Husband. Like a cucumber from its bond I loose thee, gone forth—loose thee from hence, not from yonder.
Rishi: Traditionally associated with Atharvanic seers of the Vivāha cycle (often anonymous/collective in AV marriage materials).
Devata: Aryaman (Āditya; marriage and social contract)
Chandas: Anuṣṭubh (predominant in domestic-rite verses)
