इत्य् आग्नेये महापुराणे गीतासारो नामाशीत्यधिकत्रिशततमो ऽध्यायः अथैकाशीत्यधिकत्रिशततमो ऽध्यायः यमगीता अग्निर् उवाच यमगीतां प्रवक्ष्यामि उक्ता या नाचिकेतसे पठतां शृण्वतां भुक्त्यै मुक्त्यै मोक्षार्थिनां सतां
ity āgneye mahāpurāṇe gītāsāro nāmāśītyadhikatriśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ athaikāśītyadhikatriśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ yamagītā agnir uvāca yamagītāṃ pravakṣyāmi uktā yā nāciketase paṭhatāṃ śṛṇvatāṃ bhuktyai muktyai mokṣārthināṃ satāṃ
ដូច្នេះ ក្នុងអគ្និមហាបុរាណ បញ្ចប់ជំពូកទី ៣៨០ បូកមួយ (៣៨១) ដែលមាននាមថា «សារនៃគីតា»។ ឥឡូវ ចាប់ផ្តើមជំពូកទី ៣៨០ បូកមួយ (៣៨១) «យមគីតា»។ អគ្និបានមានព្រះវាចា៖ «ខ្ញុំនឹងពន្យល់យមគីតា—ព្រះបន្ទូលដែលបានប្រាប់ដល់ នាចិកេតស—ដែលផ្តល់ទាំងសេចក្តីរីករាយក្នុងលោក និងការរំដោះ ដល់អ្នកអាន និងអ្នកស្តាប់ ជាពិសេសដល់អ្នកសុចរិតដែលប្រាថ្នាមោក្សៈ»។
