Related Themes: Agni Purana: immediate continuation to Viśvajit–Karṇa line in next verse
This verse imparts vamśa-vidyā (genealogical knowledge): the precise succession of kings, preserving authoritative lineage-memory used in Purāṇic historiography.
By cataloging dynastic succession, the Agni Purāṇa functions as a reference compendium—alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and arts—documenting historical-traditional data (vamśānucarita) essential for Purāṇic chronology and cultural memory.
Recitation and preservation of righteous lineages is traditionally treated as smṛti-dharma support: it strengthens śraddhā in dharma by remembering exemplary ancestors and reinforces continuity of sacred tradition (paramparā).
