FAQs

This verse imparts vamśa-vidyā (dynastic record-keeping): a precise succession list of kings used in Purāṇic historiography and dharma-oriented royal memory.

By cataloging royal genealogies alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and arts, the Agni Purana functions as a reference-compendium; lineage data anchors narratives of dharma, kingship legitimacy, and cross-text identification of figures.

Remembering righteous lineages is treated in Purāṇic tradition as smṛti-saṃrakṣaṇa (preservation of sacred memory), reinforcing dharma through exemplars of kingship and continuity of moral order (ṛta/dharma).
