Application: When an unusual event occurs, first place it in divya/āntarīkṣa/bhauma category before judging severity and choosing śānti.

FAQs

It teaches the nimitta-shāstra framework for reading portents by classifying adbhuta/utpāta into three domains—celestial (divya), atmospheric (antarīkṣa), and terrestrial (bhauma)—as a basis for prognosis and response.

By systematizing omen-lore (adbhuta/utpāta) into a clear taxonomy, it shows the Agni Purana’s encyclopedic coverage beyond devotion—into prognostics, cosmological observation, and applied interpretive sciences used in governance and ritual decision-making.

Recognizing afflictive portents as signals for corrective action supports dharma-protection: it encourages timely pacificatory measures (śānti) and ethical vigilance to mitigate impending suffering for individuals and communities.
