Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Protective and purificatory dhāraṇā using a ‘universal-form’ (viśvarūpa) consecrated thread as a support for sin-removal and liberation-oriented practice.","sutra_style":false}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Description","entry_title":"Viśvarūpa-maya Sūtra for Saṃsāra-sāgara-taraṇa","lookup_keywords":["viśvarūpa","saṃsāra-sāgara","pāpa-nāśana","sūtra-dhāraṇā","mokṣa-upāya"],"quick_summary":"A universal-form consecrated thread is presented as an upāya for crossing saṃsāra, granting broad attainments while emphasizing purification through pāpa-destruction."}

Alamkara Type: Rūpaka (metaphor: saṃsāra as ocean; crossing as liberation)

Concept: Liberation is framed as ‘crossing’ the ocean of saṃsāra; ritual supports (sūtra) become effective when tied to universal-form contemplation and ethical purification.

Application: Pair external dhāraṇā (wearing the thread) with internal discipline: confession/atonement, mantra-japa, and viśvarūpa-bhāvanā to cultivate detachment and steadiness.

Khanda Section: Mantra-Dharana & Protective Rite (Sutra/Dharana for purification and liberation)

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A devotee receives or wears a universal-form empowered thread; behind, the cosmic Viśvarūpa appears—worlds and deities within the divine body—while a symbolic ocean of saṃsāra is shown being crossed by a small boat of mantra/faith.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, dramatic Viśvarūpa filling the background with layered registers of gods and worlds; foreground devotee with pavitra thread; stylized ocean waves below; lamps and conch motifs; strong outlines and saturated colors.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, central Viśvarūpa with expansive gold radiance; devotee at bottom receiving thread; embossed gold for cosmic aura; ocean motif with lotus and wave patterns; rich ornamentation.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, clear narrative: priest tying thread; inset panel of Viśvarūpa; a small boat crossing waves labeled ‘saṃsāra’; fine linework and gentle shading for instructional symbolism.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, intricate cosmic panorama: Viśvarūpa as a towering figure containing celestial spheres; foreground ritual scene with thread; delicate wave patterns and calligraphic borders indicating pāpa-nāśana and taraṇa."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"slow","voice_tone":"contemplative"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: संसारसागरोत्तारकारणम् = संसार + सागर + उत्तार + कारणम् (तत्पुरुष-श्रृङ्खला).

FAQs

It teaches the bestowal and use of a viśvarūpa-maya “sūtra” (a protective sacred thread/cord or formula) as a practical ritual implement for protection, purification, and attainment of desired results.

Beyond theology, it preserves applied ritual technology—how a specific “sūtra” functions as an instrument for purification, protection, and goal-attainment—showing the text’s coverage of practical religious methods alongside broader doctrine.

The sūtra is presented as pāpa-nāśana (destroyer of sin) and as a means to transcend saṃsāra, implying both immediate karmic purification and long-term liberation-oriented merit.
