FAQs

This verse imparts Purāṇic genealogical knowledge (vaṃśānucarita), identifying Kaśyapa’s wives Pulomā and Kālakā as daughters of Vaiśvānara and stating the immense number of their offspring.

By cataloging lineages and origins of beings through Kaśyapa’s family, it functions as a reference-map for later mythic, cosmological, and sectarian narratives—one of the Agni Purāṇa’s core encyclopedic modes.

Remembering sacred lineages is treated in Purāṇic tradition as a form of smṛti and śravaṇa that supports dharmic worldview—linking beings to cosmic order (ṛta/dharma) and encouraging reverence toward the creators and progenitors.
