Paingala Upanishad 22 — Verse 22

idaṃ jñānam idaṃ jñeyaṃ tat sarvaṃ jñātum icchati | api varṣasahasrāyuḥ śāstrāntaṃ nādhigacchati ||22||

“This is knowledge; this is what is to be known”—desiring to know all that, even one who lives a thousand years does not reach the end of the scriptures.

Jñāna vs. śāstra-vistāra; limitation of encyclopedic learning; primacy of liberating knowledge (ātma-jñāna)Mahavakya: Indirect: cautions against mere textual proliferation and points toward immediate realization implied by mahāvākyas (e.g., ‘tat tvam asi’, ‘ahaṃ brahmāsmi’) rather than exhaustive scholasticism.AtharvaAtharva-veda (Paippalāda tradition; commonly transmitted as a Sannyāsa Upaniṣad corpus text) ShakhaChandas: Anuṣṭubh (śloka)
