īśvara uvāca | tato gacchenmahādevi kūpaṃ trailokyaviśrutam | devikāyāstaṭe ramye huṃkāreṇaiva pūryate
Īśvara (Śiva)
Tirtha: Tri-loka-viśruta Kūpa on Devikā-taṭa
Type: kund
Listener: Mahādevī (Pārvatī)
Scene: Śiva (Īśvara) instructs the Goddess beside a beautiful riverbank; a stone-lined well gleams; as the syllable 'huṃ' is uttered, water rises and fills the well, forming ripples shaped like sacred syllables.
Sacred geography is animated by divine power: a tīrtha can manifest miraculous abundance through mantra-like potency.
A famous sacred well (kūpa) on the bank of the Devikā river in Prabhāsakṣetra.
Pilgrims are instructed to go (visit) the well; the verse highlights huṃkāra as the operative sacred sound associated with it.
