परं तेऽनुग्रहार्थं तु करिष्यामि प्रतिग्रहम् । किंच मे वचनं त्वं चेत्करिष्यस्युत्तमोत्तम
paraṃ te'nugrahārthaṃ tu kariṣyāmi pratigraham | kiṃca me vacanaṃ tvaṃ cetkariṣyasyuttamottama
しかし、ただ汝に恩寵を示すために、この供物を受け取ろう。だが、もし我が教えの言葉を実行するならば、ああ高貴なる者の中の最上よ、それでこそ相応しい。」
A brāhmaṇa (dvija) addressing the caṇḍāla (contextual)
Tirtha: Viśveśvara-kṣetra (Kāśī)
Type: kshetra
Scene: A humble donor offers wealth; the recipient (a revered brāhmaṇa/saintly figure) accepts only to bestow grace, while issuing a solemn instruction; Kāśī’s sacred ambience implied with Viśveśvara’s presence.
Even meritorious acts like accepting a gift should be guided by dharma and done with the intent of uplifting the devotee.
Kāśī (Vārāṇasī), especially through reference to Viśveśa, the presiding Śiva of the sacred city.
Pratigraha (acceptance of a gift) is discussed as a dharmic act, conditioned by the giver following a proper instruction.
