ते श्रुत्वा देवदेवस्य पुनरागमनं मुने । तपःकृशा अतितरामासुरानंद मेदुराः
te śrutvā devadevasya punarāgamanaṃ mune | tapaḥkṛśā atitarāmāsurānaṃda medurāḥ
聖仙よ、神々の神の再来を聞くや、苦行によってやつれたその修行者たちは、いよいよ歓喜に満たされ、喜びにふくらむかのようであった。
Skanda (narration)
Tirtha: Kāśī (Avimukta) / Daṇḍakhātā precinct
Type: kshetra
Listener: Muni
Scene: Emaciated ascetics, ribs visible from austerity, suddenly radiant with joy—faces uplifted, eyes bright—upon hearing news of Devadeva’s return; the sacred pond and liṅgas nearby.
Austerity may thin the body, but devotion thickens the heart with bliss—news of Śiva’s presence becomes the devotees’ greatest nourishment.
The Kāśī setting around the tīrtha and liṅgas is implied; the focus is on the devotees’ response to Śiva’s return.
No direct prescription; the verse highlights bhakti’s emotional fruit (ānanda) accompanying tapas and sacred expectation.
