Role: liberating
It praises Shiva as Pati—the Absolute who is beyond mind and speech—who removes the soul’s ignorance (avidyā) and grants liberation by revealing consciousness beyond birth, decay, and time.
Although Shiva is proclaimed as transcending thought and language (nirguṇa), devotees approach Him through saguna supports like the Śiva-liṅga and mantra; the verse guides worship from form-based devotion toward realization of the formless Supreme.
Japa and dhyāna focused on Shiva as the dispeller of inner darkness—especially Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya)—with a contemplative resolve to move beyond mental constructs into stillness.
