Tattva Level: pashu
It preserves a sacred lineage (vaṁśa) within the Purana, reminding the listener that worldly power and birth are transient, while true stability comes from aligning the soul (paśu) with Shiva, the Lord (Pati), beyond all lineages.
Though the verse is genealogical, the Shiva Purana frames such histories as supports for smaraṇa (remembrance): devotees trace dharmic continuity while ultimately turning to Saguna Shiva—worshipped as the Linga—as the enduring refuge beyond ancestry.
Use the lineage-recitation mood as a prompt for japa: repeat the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with steady attention, remembering that all names and lines culminate in devotion to Shiva.
