It presents creation as a manifestation sustained by divine pervasion (mahimā). In a Shaiva Siddhanta reading, the cosmos and the cosmic person (Virāṭ) are effects within the realm of manifestation, while the Supreme Lord (Pati) remains the transcendent ground and inner pervader of all beings.
Virāṭ is the universe seen as a divine body, but Linga-worship points beyond the visible totality to the Supreme Pati who pervades it. Saguna Shiva can be adored as the immanent Lord within creation, while the Linga signifies the formless source that is not limited even by the cosmic form.
Meditate on Shiva’s all-pervasion while japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), visualizing the universe as pervaded by the Lord’s mahimā; offer water and bilva to the Linga with the intent to see all beings as resting in Shiva.
