Dehāśucitā-vicāraḥ

Inquiry into the Impurity of the Body

यथा जात्यैव कृष्णोर्थः शुक्लस्स्यान्न ह्युपायतः । संशोद्ध्यमानापि तथा भवेन्मूर्तिर्न निर्मला

yathā jātyaiva kṛṣṇorthaḥ śuklassyānna hyupāyataḥ | saṃśoddhyamānāpi tathā bhavenmūrtirna nirmalā

生まれつき黒いものがどのような手段によっても白くならないように、本質的に不浄な形(ムールティ)は、繰り返し清めても真に清らかになることはない。

Linga/Saguna worship is not meant as a cosmetic purification; it is a means to transform the devotee’s inner condition. Without inner devotion (bhakti), right understanding, and surrender to Shiva, outward acts alone do not yield true nirmalatā (spotlessness).

Use rituals like bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) and japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) as supports for inner purification—paired with self-examination, restraint, and meditation on Shiva—so the root impurity is addressed, not just the surface.
