Svagati-varṇana
Description of the Supreme State / One’s True Attainment
श्रीशिव उवाच । उपमन्यो मुने तात वर्ज्जितस्त्वं भविष्यसि । जरामरणजैर्दोषैस्सर्वकामान्वितो भव
śrīśiva uvāca | upamanyo mune tāta varjjitastvaṃ bhaviṣyasi | jarāmaraṇajairdoṣaissarvakāmānvito bhava
聖なるシヴァは仰せになった。「おお牟尼ウパマニュよ、愛しき子よ。老いと死より生ずる諸々の過失から汝は離れ、また相応しき願いのすべてが成就して満たされよ。」
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
It expresses Pati (Shiva) granting anugraha (grace): the devotee is freed from the afflictions tied to embodied existence—symbolized by old age and death—and is fulfilled in dharmic aims, pointing ultimately toward liberation from bondage (pāśa).
The verse shows Saguna Shiva as the compassionate Lord who responds to devotion with boons; in Shiva Purana devotion to Shiva—often through Linga worship—matures from seeking blessings to receiving grace that loosens the fear of death and leads toward moksha.
While not naming a specific rite, the implied takeaway is steady Shiva-bhakti—especially japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and regular Shiva worship—performed with the intent of purification and freedom from worldly afflictions.
