The verse condemns pride (garva) as a binding impurity that contradicts true bhakti. From a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, devotion must express itself as humility, disciplined speech, and dharmic conduct—otherwise the devotee remains bound by pāśa (bondage) despite religious identity.
Saguna Shiva (Rudra) here acts as the living moral authority who corrects the devotee’s behavior. Linga-worship is not merely ritual; it requires inner purification—especially overcoming ego and harsh speech—so the worshipper becomes fit for Shiva’s grace (anugraha).
Practice japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a vow of right speech (mauna/mitabhāṣā as appropriate), and wear/handle Rudrākṣa with remembrance that humility is the true ornament of a Shiva-bhakta.
