शिवस्य आश्वासनं हरि-ब्रह्मणोः तथा शङ्खचूडवृत्तान्तकथनम् / Śiva’s Reassurance to Hari and Brahmā; Account of Śaṅkhacūḍa’s Origin
तं दृष्ट्वा मोहमत्युग्रं तस्याहं मायया स्वया । तेषां संहृत्य सद्बुद्धिं शापं दापितवान् किल
taṃ dṛṣṭvā mohamatyugraṃ tasyāhaṃ māyayā svayā | teṣāṃ saṃhṛtya sadbuddhiṃ śāpaṃ dāpitavān kila
そのきわめて激しい迷妄を見て、わたしは自らのマーヤー(Māyā)をもって彼に対し、さらに彼らの正しい分別を引き去って、呪詛を口にさせたという。
Lord Shiva (Rudra) (as narrated within Suta Goswami’s discourse)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Rudra
The verse highlights Shiva’s sovereign control over Māyā: when delusion becomes destructive, he can withdraw “sadbuddhi” (right discernment) to redirect events through karmic consequence, ultimately guiding beings back toward dharma and liberation.
As Saguna Shiva, the Lord actively governs the cosmos through Māyā—veiling and revealing understanding. Linga-worship trains the mind to move from moha to steady devotion, so discernment is restored by Shiva’s grace rather than lost to delusion.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Panchākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with a vow of self-restraint, seeking the return of sadbuddhi; accompanying it with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa helps cultivate vairāgya and clarity against moha.
