जालन्धरस्य दूतप्रेषणम् — Jalandhara Sends an Envoy to Kailāsa
The Provocation of Śiva
शिव उवाच । हे महागण धन्यस्त्वं मदाज्ञाप्रतिपालकः । संतुष्टश्चास्मि तेऽतीव कर्मणानेन सत्तम
śiva uvāca | he mahāgaṇa dhanyastvaṃ madājñāpratipālakaḥ | saṃtuṣṭaścāsmi te'tīva karmaṇānena sattama
シヴァは言った。「おお、大いなるガナよ、汝は祝福されている。汝は忠実に私の命を守ったからだ。この行為により、私は汝にこの上なく満足している。おお、徳高き者の中でも最上の者よ。」
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: Boons in narrative form: Śiva praises obedience to ājñā as the qualifying mark for proximity to the Lord—an archetype for gaṇa-hood and temple guardianship.
Significance: Teaches that surrender (ājñā-pālana) draws Śiva’s grace; devotees emulate this through disciplined observance and service (sevā) in Śiva temples.
The verse highlights that sincere service and unwavering obedience to Śiva (Pati) attracts His grace (anugraha). In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, aligning one’s actions with the Lord’s will helps loosen pāśa (bondage) and purifies the pashu (individual soul).
It reflects Saguna Śiva as the personal Lord who guides devotees and acknowledges their devotion. Linga-worship similarly trains the devotee to offer disciplined service (kriyā) and devotion (bhakti) to Śiva’s manifest presence.
The practical takeaway is niyama and sevā: perform daily Shiva-pūjā with steadiness, repeat the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with the intention to follow dharma and the guru/śāstra-guided command as Śiva’s ājñā.
