Type: stotra

Role: teaching
It expresses śaraṇāgati (complete surrender): when the bound soul (paśu) is confused and spiritually lost, liberation begins by turning to Pati—Śiva—as the sole refuge, invoking His compassion and grace.
The prayer is directed to Saguna Śiva—Maheśāna, the compassionate Lord who hears devotees. In Linga-worship, the same attitude is central: approaching the Linga as the living presence of Śiva and seeking His protective grace to remove bondage (pāśa) and delusion.
A simple takeaway is japa with a protective bhāva—reciting the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while mentally repeating “rakṣa rakṣa” (protect me), ideally alongside Tripuṇḍra bhasma and a brief prayer for clarity of consciousness.
