Vīrabhadra and the Battle with the Devas
विष्णुश्चापि महाघोषं पांचजन्या भिधन्निजम् । दध्मौ बली महाशंखं स्वकीयान् हर्षयन्निव
viṣṇuścāpi mahāghoṣaṃ pāṃcajanyā bhidhannijam | dadhmau balī mahāśaṃkhaṃ svakīyān harṣayanniva
ヴィシュヌもまた、武威にすぐれ、自らの大法螺「パーンチャジャニヤ」を吹き鳴らした。その響きは雷鳴のごとく轟き、まるで味方を歓喜させ励ますかのようであった。

The verse highlights sacred sound (nāda) as a force that steadies the mind and strengthens dharma; even great deities employ auspicious sound to uplift their followers—echoing the Shaiva view that inner purification and right alignment support devotion to Pati (Shiva).
Though Viṣṇu is the actor here, the Purāṇic setting ultimately serves Shiva’s larger narrative: auspicious sound and orderly conduct prepare the devotee for Saguna worship—such as Linga-pūjā with mantra and ritual—where the senses are gathered and directed toward Shiva.
It suggests the use of auspicious sound and mantra to uplift consciousness—practically, steady japa (e.g., “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and temple-style pūjā with bell/conch as supportive aids, where appropriate to one’s tradition.
