It highlights that outer worship must be done with fitness and care: when the materials and method are unsuitable, the rite becomes ineffective—echoing the Shaiva emphasis that purity of means and steadiness of intent support the fruit of worship.
In Saguna Shiva worship, correct upacāras (offerings) and proper procedure support devotion; this verse uses the fire-rite as an example that inattentive or deficient offering weakens the outward act, reminding devotees to offer to Shiva with appropriate dravya and reverence.
Perform homa/puja with suitable, dry and pure materials and adequate ghee; inwardly, maintain focused bhakti and mantra-japa (such as the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) so the offering is both ritually sound and devotionally alive.
