It highlights how intense grief in worldly life draws immediate social response, yet Shaiva Siddhanta points beyond mere emotion toward seeking refuge in Shiva (Pati), the ultimate support when bonds (pāśa) tighten around the soul (paśu).
Though the verse is narrative, it sets the emotional and karmic backdrop that culminates in deeper turning toward Saguna Shiva—worship of Shiva as the compassionate Lord who receives the devotee when worldly relations cannot resolve suffering.
In moments of agitation, steady the mind by japa of the Panchakshara ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") and remembrance of Shiva as the inner refuge; this is the practical takeaway even when no explicit ritual is stated.
