The verse highlights śravaṇa (attentive listening) as a foundational discipline for receiving sacred history and doctrine; in Shaiva practice, such focused hearing prepares the mind for devotion to Pati (Śiva) and for right understanding of subsequent events.
Though the Liṅga is not named here, the narrative frame—Brahmā instructing a qualified listener—sets the traditional Purāṇic method by which Saguna Śiva’s līlās and worship-forms (including Liṅga-upāsanā) are transmitted and understood.
The immediate practice is sāva-dhāna śravaṇa: listening with one-pointed attention; as a takeaway, one may hear/recite Shiva Purana passages while mentally repeating the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to steady the mind.
