The verse highlights that ritual (yajña) without humility and reverence to Śiva (Pati) becomes tainted by ahaṅkāra, turning a sacred act into a cause of bondage and conflict—an essential Shaiva lesson that devotion and right attitude are the soul of dharma.
Dakṣa’s omission of Śiva shows the failure of honoring Saguna Śiva—the accessible Lord worshipped as the Liṅga—within religious life. In Shaiva understanding, neglect of Śiva in worship denies the very source of auspiciousness (śiva-tattva) that sanctifies all rites.
The implied takeaway is to purify worship with humility: begin rites with Śiva-smaraṇa and Panchākṣarī japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), and, where appropriate, use bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) and Rudrākṣa as reminders to dissolve ego rather than inflate it.
