Gotra–Pravara Inquiry and Proclamation of Auspicious Time
सुनिषिद्धो हठात्तेन देवर्षे त्वं यदा बुध । प्रत्यवोचो गिरीशं तं सुसंस्मृत्य महेश्वरम्
suniṣiddho haṭhāttena devarṣe tvaṃ yadā budha | pratyavoco girīśaṃ taṃ susaṃsmṛtya maheśvaram
おお天なる聖仙よ、賢者よ—彼により強く厳しく制せられたとき、あなたは山の主たるマハーデーヴァ、マヘーシュヴァラを内に念じてから、答えた。
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Role: teaching
It highlights śiva-smaraṇa—remembering Maheśvara inwardly before acting or speaking—showing that turning the mind to Pati (the Lord) gives clarity and steadiness even under force or opposition.
The verse emphasizes personal remembrance of Saguna Shiva (Girīśa/Maheśvara) as an immediate refuge; such smaraṇa naturally supports Linga-upāsanā, where the devotee centers awareness on Shiva’s presence before engaging the world.
A practical takeaway is japa with mental recollection—silently repeating the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and remembering Maheśvara before responding in tense situations.
