नोचितं हि विधानं वै विवाहकरणं नृणाम् । महानिगडसंज्ञो हि विवाहो दृढबन्धनः
nocitaṃ hi vidhānaṃ vai vivāhakaraṇaṃ nṛṇām | mahānigaḍasaṃjño hi vivāho dṛḍhabandhanaḥ
まことに、人々にとって婚姻を行うことは相応しい規定ではない。婚姻とは実に「大いなる枷」と呼ばれ、堅固に結びつける束縛だからである。

This verse frames marriage as a form of pāśa (bondage): a powerful worldly tie that can tighten attachment and obscure the soul’s orientation toward Pati (Śiva). From a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, it cautions that liberation requires loosening such fetters through viveka (discernment), devotion, and inner discipline.
By calling marriage a “shackle,” the verse redirects attention from external entanglements to steadfast refuge in Saguna Śiva—often approached through Liṅga worship, mantra, and pūjā—so that household life does not become the primary identity but remains secondary to devotion and spiritual aim.
The practical takeaway is cultivation of vairāgya alongside daily Śiva-upāsanā—such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and regular Liṅga-pūjā—so that bonds of attachment are gradually weakened rather than strengthened.
