Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva Purana observances to the sages at Naimisharanya, within Rudrasaṃhitā narration)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Naṭarāja
Sthala Purana: General vrata conclusion: night vigil (jāgaraṇa), dawn worship, and formal dismissal (visarjana) with prayer for the deity’s return—ritually managing presence/absence of the invoked deity.
Significance: Jāgaraṇa and prātaḥ-pūjā intensify devotion and attentiveness; visarjana acknowledges Śiva’s transcendence while seeking continued accessibility through grace.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Offering: dipa
It teaches disciplined devotion: staying awake in sacred remembrance through the night, renewing worship at dawn, and concluding respectfully—so bhakti becomes steady, attentive, and complete in Shaiva practice.
The sequence fits Saguna worship of Shiva—especially Linga-pūjā—where vigil (jāgaraṇa) sustains continuous awareness, dawn worship renews offerings, and visarjana completes the rite with humility, seeking Shiva’s continued presence for future worship.
Night-long jāgaraṇa with Shiva-nāma/japa (often the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), followed by prātaḥ-pūjā and a proper visarjana (formal closing), maintaining reverence and continuity of practice.
