It highlights Gaṇapati’s steadfast obedience to the Divine Mother’s command and his role as a protector of sacred boundaries—symbolizing disciplined devotion (bhakti) and the guarding of inner purity before approaching Śiva-tattva.
In Saguna worship, entry into Śiva’s presence (such as Linga-pūjā) is approached with reverence and proper order; Gaṇapati at the doorway represents removing obstacles and ensuring the devotee’s readiness before the sanctum of Śiva.
Begin Śiva-pūjā by invoking Gaṇeśa and cultivating vrata-like discipline; then proceed with Śiva practices such as pañcākṣara japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and, where traditional, Tripuṇḍra bhasma application as a sign of reverent preparation.
