Sarga 93: Rāvaṇa’s Grief and Fury after Indrajit’s Fall; Move to Slay Vaidehī and Ministerial Restraint
हाराक्षसचमूमुख्यममवत्समहाबल ।।।।जित्वेन्द्रंकथमद्यत्वंलक्ष्मणस्यवशंगतः ।
hā rākṣasa-camū-mukhya mama vatsa mahā-bala | jitvendraṃ katham adya tvaṃ lakṣmaṇasya vaśaṃ gataḥ ||
ああ、羅刹の軍勢の首領よ、わが子よ、力強き者よ!かつてインドラさえ打ち破った汝が、いかにして今日、ラクシュマナの威力のもとに屈したのか。
'Because of the sinful resolve of hunch back Mandara, this grief has come to Kausalya surely. Let her be burnt'.
The verse underscores the moral law of consequences: even great might and past victories cannot shield one aligned with adharma from downfall in a dharmic war.
Rāvaṇa laments the defeat (and likely death) of his powerful son/commander at the hands of Lakṣmaṇa.
Lakṣmaṇa’s valor and steadfastness in duty, implicitly contrasted with the Rākṣasa side’s reliance on power and conquest.
