The Awakening of Kumbhakarna
अन्येभेरीस्समाजघ्नुरन्येचक्रुर्महास्वनम् ।।।।केशानन्येप्रलुलुपुःकर्णावन्येदशन्तिच ।
anye bherīḥ samājaghnur anye cakrur mahāsvanam |
keśān anye pralulupuḥ karṇāv anye daśanti ca ||
ある者は太鼓を打ち、ある者は轟く叫び声を上げた。ある者は髪を引き、またある者は耳を噛むことさえした。
While some were beating the drums, some shouted at the pitch of their voice, some started pulling his hair and some bit his ears.
It illustrates how desperation can degrade conduct; dharma calls for restraint and right means (sādhana-śuddhi), even under pressure.
The rākṣasas try varied, increasingly extreme methods—noise and physical harassment—to awaken Kumbhakarṇa.
Ingenuity and persistence are present, but tempered by the portrayal of impatience and loss of composure.
