Agni’s Testimony and Sītā’s Revalidation
अवश्यंत्रिषुलोकेषु न सीतापापमर्हति ।दीर्घकालोषिताहीयंरावणान्तःपुरेशुभा ।।।।
avaśyaṁ triṣu lokeṣu na sītā pāpam arhati |
dīrgha-kāloṣitā hīyaṁ rāvaṇāntaḥpure śubhā ||
まことに三界において、吉祥なるシーターは罪に当たらぬと知られている。されど彼女は久しくラーヴァナの奥宮に留まっていた。
"The people will surely say that mighty Dasharatha's son, Rama being lusty at heart has accepted Janaki without testing."
Dharma recognizes both inner truth and outer perception: innocence may be certain, yet society’s doubts can still demand a clarifying proof to protect moral order.
Rāma explains that although Sītā is sinless, her long captivity in Rāvaṇa’s quarters could provoke suspicion among people.
Rāma’s commitment to societal dharma—maintaining public confidence in righteousness while acknowledging Sītā’s innocence.
