Lament of the Rākṣasa Women upon Seeing Rāvaṇa Slain
येनमित्रासितःशक्रोयेनवित्रासितोयमः ।येनवैश्रवणोराजापुष्पकेणवियोजितः ।।।।गन्धर्वाणामृषीणां च सुराणां च महात्मनाम् ।भयंयेनरणेदत्तंसोऽयंशेतेरणेहतः ।।।।
yena mitrāsitaḥ śakro yena vitrāsito yamaḥ | yena vaiśravaṇo rājā puṣpakeṇa viyojitaḥ || gandharvāṇām ṛṣīṇāṃ ca surāṇāṃ ca mahātmanām | bhayaṃ yena raṇe dattaṃ so 'yaṃ śete raṇe hataḥ ||
"By whom Indra feared, by whom Yama feared, at whom king Visrava feared, by whom Pushpaka was deprived to Kubera in war, by whom Gandharvas and ascetics were afraid of, by whom high souled Suras were afraid of lies in the battlefield asleep."
It teaches that power without dharma is unstable: even the mightiest who terrify gods and sages can fall; satya of mortality humbles all.
The mourning women recall Rāvaṇa’s former conquests and terror, contrasting that past glory with his present state—slain on the battlefield.
Moral reflection through grief—recognizing the impermanence of worldly dominance.
