Sita Tests the Messenger; Hanuman Offers Reassurance
सत्यवादी मधुरवाग्देवो वाचस्पतिर्यथा।रूपवान्सुभग श्रीमान् कन्दर्प इव मूर्तिमान्।।।।
satyavādī madhuravāg devo vācaspatir yathā ।
rūpavān subhagaḥ śrīmān kandarpa iva mūrtimān ॥
彼は真実を語り、その言葉は甘美で、ヴァーチャスパティのようである。姿は麗しく、福徳に満ち、光り輝き、まるで愛神カーマが身を現したかのようだ。
"He is truthful in speech like Brihaspati, prosperous (like Kubera), sweet-tongued, handsome, graceful like Kamadeva.
Satya joined to kindness: truthfulness (satyavāda) is presented not as harshness but as sweet, beneficial speech—an ethical ideal in Ramayana.
Hanumān continues to reassure Sītā by describing Rāma’s character and attractiveness, strengthening her confidence.
Rāma’s satya (truthfulness) and madhura-vāk (gentle speech), showing moral authority through words as well as deeds.
