Trijata’s Dream-Omens and the Rakshasis’ Reversal
प्रणिपातप्रसन्ना हि मैथिली जनकात्मजा।।5.27.44।।अलमेषा परित्रातुं राक्षस्यो महतो भयात्।
praṇipāta-prasannā hi maithilī janakātmajā | alam eṣā paritrātuṃ rākṣasyo mahato bhayāt ||5.27.44||
まことにマイティリー、ジャナカ王の御息女は、伏して礼拝する者に慈しみを垂れたまう。おお羅刹女たちよ、彼女は汝らを大いなる恐怖より救い得る。
"O she-demons, this Janaka's daughter from Mithila who is capable of protecting you against great dangers will be pleased by your submission.
Śaraṇāgati and kṣamā: sincere submission and repentance can awaken the compassion of the righteous, who may protect even former offenders.
A rākṣasī argues that Sītā’s nature is forgiving when approached with humility, and that this may avert the impending danger.
Sītā’s kṣamā (forbearance/forgiveness) and nobility—her readiness to respond to humility rather than vengeance.
