(Sarga 73): Mithilā Vivāha
Kanyādāna and the Fourfold Marriage Rites
tato rājā videhānāṃ vasiṣṭham idam abravīt | kārayasva ṛṣe sarvam ṛṣibhiḥ saha dhārmika | rāmasya lokarāmasya kriyāṃ vaivāhikīṃ vibho ||
Thereafter the king of the Videhas to Vasishta, "O Adherent of righteousness, O Lord O Maharshi perform with the rishis the marriage ceremony of Rama who causes delight to the three worlds".
Reiteration stresses dharma as procedural correctness: sacred rites gain authority through repetition, clarity of instruction, and performance by competent officiants.
This verse duplicates the prior instruction (a Southern Recension repetition), reaffirming Janaka’s request that Vasiṣṭha conduct Rama’s marriage rites.
Janaka’s careful insistence on proper rite-performance and Vasiṣṭha’s recognized ritual mastery.
