Trishanku’s Bodily Ascent and the New Constellations

王よ、我が得た苦行の果はなおわずかに残っている。その功徳と我が自らの威光の力によって、この身のまま天へ赴け。
By the power of what little fruit of austerities I have earned, I shall send to heaven with your body".
The verse presents tapas (disciplined spiritual effort) as a morally potent force whose earned merit can be deliberately used for another’s welfare; it also implies the dharmic weight of a sage’s truth-backed resolve.
Viśvāmitra assures Triśaṅku that he will use the remaining fruit of his austerities to send the king to heaven with his physical body.
Viśvāmitra’s steadfast will and mastery of tapas—his capacity to convert ascetic merit into an effective boon.
