Description of Ayodhya under Daśaratha
नाल्पसन्निचय: कश्चिदासीत्तस्मिन् पुरोत्तमे ।कुटुम्बी यो ह्यसिद्धार्थोऽगवाश्वधनधान्यवान् ।।1.6.7।।
nālpasannicayaḥ kaścid āsīt tasmin purottame |
kuṭumbī yo hy asiddhārtho ’gavāśvadhanadhānyavān ||1.6.7||
その最上の都には、蓄えの乏しい家長は一人もなく、人生の目的を成し得ぬ者もいなかった。家々には牛や馬、財宝と穀物が満ちていた。
In that best of cities, there was not even a single householder who had not adequate wealth or who had not achieved dharma, artha and kama or who did not possess the wealth of foodgrains, cattle and horses.
Prosperity is portrayed as a fruit of dharmic governance: when rulers and citizens follow dharma, basic economic security becomes widespread.
Continuing Ayodhyā’s description, the narrator emphasizes the absence of poverty and the fulfillment of household life.
Collective well-being rooted in disciplined household life—material sufficiency aligned with legitimate life-goals.
