Rama’s Lament in Separation from Sita
itīva taṁ śokavidhēyadehaṁ rāmaṁ visaṁjñaṁ vilapantam evam |
uvāca saumitrir adīnasattvo nyāye sthitaḥ kālayutaṁ ca vākyam ||
While Rama was thus in tears, in a state of sorrow and swoon, Lakshmana who was rational and courageous spoke to him words appropriate to the time :
Dharma includes timely counsel (kāla-yukta vākyam) and rational steadiness: when a leader is overwhelmed, a dutiful companion supports him with reasoned guidance.
Rama collapses into grief; Lakshmana steps in and prepares to advise him appropriately.
Lakshmana’s fortitude and rational clarity under pressure.
