The Greatness of Haridvāra
Gaṅgādvāra-māhātmya
anyāni vai mahābhāge saṃti tatrala sahasraśaḥ | yo'sminkṣetre naraḥ snāyātkuṃbhagejye'jage ravau || 44 ||
Narada (in dialogue tradition with Sanatkumara lineage; Uttara-Bhaga tīrtha narration)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It highlights tīrtha-māhātmya: among countless sacred acts available at the holy place, bathing there during a specific solar timing (Sun in Kumbha) is singled out as especially potent for religious merit.
While the verse is framed as a ritual instruction, it supports bhakti-oriented practice by directing devotees to perform a time-sanctified act (tīrtha-snānā) with faith, a common Purāṇic method of cultivating devotion through disciplined observance.
Jyotiṣa (Vedic astrology/astronomy) is implicit: the fruit of the rite is linked to Ravi’s position in Kumbha and an auspicious transit/junction time, showing how calendrical timing guides Purāṇic ritual practice.
