Prayaga-mahatmya
Glory of Prayaga and the Magha Bath at Triveni
पापहा दुःखहारी च सर्वकामफलप्रदः । रुद्रलोक प्रदो माघो नार्मदे परिकीर्तितः ॥ २६ ॥
pāpahā duḥkhahārī ca sarvakāmaphalapradaḥ | rudraloka prado māgho nārmade parikīrtitaḥ || 26 ||
ナルマダーの伝承において称えられるように、マーガ月は罪を滅し、悲しみを払い、あらゆる願いの果を授け、ルドラの世界への入域を与える。
Narada (teaching within the Narmada Mahatmya context, traditionally relayed in Narada Purana dialogues)
Vrata: Māgha-vrata (Māgha observance)
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It elevates Māgha (especially in the Narmadā tīrtha context) as a highly meritorious period that purifies sin, relieves suffering, fulfills rightful desires, and can lead to exalted posthumous realms like Rudra-loka.
By praising Māgha connected to a sacred river-mahātmya, the verse points to bhakti expressed through tīrtha-sevā—faithful observances (snāna, vrata, worship) undertaken with reverence, yielding inner purification and divine grace.
Kalpa-oriented practice and sacred calendrics: it underscores time-based observance (Māgha) and tīrtha-linked ritual merit, aligning vows and bathing rites with an auspicious lunar month.
