Kārtika-Māhātmya
The Greatness of Kārtika
vasiṣṭha uvāca | saṃprāptaṃ kārtikaṃ dṛṣṭvā prabodhakaraṇaṃ hareḥ | atipramugdho rājeṃdro mohinīṃ vākyamabravīt || 27 ||
ヴァシシュタは言った。カールティカ月――ハリを目覚めさせる時――が来たのを見て、王はこの上なく歓喜し、モーヒニーに次の言葉を告げた。
Vasiṣṭha
Vrata: Kārtika-vrata (contextual, implied)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It marks Kārtika as a sacred period identified with “awakening Hari,” signaling an especially potent time for Viṣṇu-centered devotion, vows (vrata), and merit-bearing worship.
Bhakti is shown as responsive and time-attuned: the king’s joy on Kārtika’s arrival reflects eagerness to engage in Hari’s worship when devotion is traditionally intensified through Kārtika observances.
It implicitly uses calendrical timing (Jyotiṣa/Vedic astrology as a Vedāṅga) by emphasizing the religious importance of the lunar month Kārtika for scheduling vratas and Hari-upāsanā.
