The Account of Hanumān
athābabhāṣe viśveśaṃ gautamo munipuṃgavaḥ | ayogyaṃ prārthayāmīśa hyarthī doṣaṃ na paśyati || 95 ||
Gautama
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It teaches inner honesty: even a learned seeker can become blinded by desire, so one should approach the Lord with humility, admitting one’s limitations and faults.
Bhakti here is marked by sincerity and surrender—Gautama does not justify his request, but confesses that need can distort judgment, which is a devotional form of self-correction before God.
It reflects a dharmic principle relevant to ritual and prayer practice: the adhikāra (fitness/eligibility) of a request matters, and a petitioner should examine doṣa (fault) before undertaking vows, rites, or seeking boons.
