The Account of Hanumān
अहल्या शोकसंतप्ता रुरोदोञ्चैः पुनःपुनः । गौतमेन महेशस्य पूजया पूजितो विभुः ॥ ७३ ॥
ahalyā śokasaṃtaptā rurodoñcaiḥ punaḥpunaḥ | gautamena maheśasya pūjayā pūjito vibhuḥ || 73 ||
アハリヤーは悲嘆に焼かれ、声高く幾度も幾度も泣き叫んだ。しかして大いなる主マヘーシャ(シヴァ)は、ゴータマによって供養の作法をもって正しく礼拝された。
Narada (narrative voice within the Purana tradition; dialogue context commonly framed with Sanatkumara)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It juxtaposes intense human sorrow (Ahalyā’s repeated lament) with the stabilizing force of dharmic action—Gautama’s worship—implying that disciplined puja is a means to restore order and sanctity amid emotional and karmic turmoil.
Bhakti is shown as steady, repeated reverence expressed through pūjā: Gautama’s worship of Maheśa embodies devotional practice that continues regardless of distress, presenting worship as an anchor when grief overwhelms the mind.
The verse points to ritual application—pūjā as a structured act—aligned with Kalpa (ritual procedure) and the disciplined performance of worship as prescribed conduct, even though specific mantras or technical rites are not detailed in this single śloka.
