The Description of the Worship of Rāma and Others
Rāmādi-pūjā-vidhāna
narāsthijā māraṇe tu staṃbhane rājavṛkṣajā | śāṃtipuṣṭaṣṭyāyuṣāṃ siddhayai sarvāpacchamanāya ca || 41 ||
Sanatkumara (in instruction to Narada on technical/ritual applications)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It classifies specific substances by their ritual function—destructive (māraṇa), restraining (stambhana), and pacificatory (śānti)—showing the Purana’s technical mapping of material means to intended karmic outcomes, with emphasis on apad-śamana (calamity-pacification).
Direct bhakti instruction is not explicit here; instead, it reflects the supportive, practical layer of dharma where pacificatory rites (śānti) and welfare aims (puṣṭi, āyus) are pursued as auxiliaries that can stabilize life for sustained sādhana and devotion.
It highlights applied ritual-technical knowledge (prayoga) concerning substances used for specific ritual effects—typical of the Narada Purana’s Third Pada focus on technical sciences allied to Vedic practice (mantra- and aushadha-based procedures).
