ある者は髪を乱して蟻塚の上に座り、ある者は草のみを食み、またある者は裸のまま水の中へ入っていった。
Narada (narrative description within the dialogue framework)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It depicts extreme forms of tapas and outward renunciation—showing how some seekers adopt harsh bodily disciplines to pursue detachment and liberation.
By contrast, it implies that mere external austerity is not the whole path; in the Narada Purana’s broader teaching, inner purity and devotion to the Lord are essential beyond physical self-mortification.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana, Jyotisha, or Kalpa) is taught in this verse; it is primarily an ethical-spiritual observation about ascetic conduct (tapas) and renunciation.
